1999 - Dr. Tom Slack:  Honoree for Service to the Profession
Dr. Thomas W. Slack (also known as Dr. Tom Slack, Senior) was honored for his years of service to organized dentistry and to the dental community at the membership meeting on September 9, 1999, with the presentation of the President's Award of Merit from the Colorado Springs Dental Society.

The CSDS is proud to have selected Dr. Tom W. Slack as the recipient for the 1999 award. Dr. Slack earned his dental degree from the University of Nebraska in 1957. His Colorado license was issued in June 1959. Dr. Slack has been active in the ADA, the CDA, and the CSDS. He served as an alternate delegate for three years and as a delegate to the ADA for 12 years. At the CDA, he served on various committees, as well as the executive committee, serving as CDA president from 1979 - 1980. Dr. Slack also served on many committees and the executive committee for the CSDS, serving as president from 1972 - 1973.

In 1983 and 1984, the CSDS honored retired dentists at the annual holiday parties. In 1996, the Board re-established the President's Award of Merit. The recipient in 1996 was Dr. Dick Carter and Dr. Bill Martin in 1997. This award was created to honor a dentist who has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the profession or who is involved in activities which reflect positively on the dental profession. Nominees must have contributed in areas such as public perception of dentistry, public health, community service, to the advancement of the art and the sciences of dentistry.

1996 - Dr. Richard Carter:  Honoree for Service to the Profession
Dr. Richard Carter received his President's Award of Merit from then - CSDS president, Dr. Spence Nelson.
